Owens Corning Flashing Replacement: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
We stock Owens Corning-compatible flashing replacement parts for Fort Lauderdale homes, and most flashing replacements run $350 to $900 installed depending on how much of the old metal has to come out. We keep common Owens Corning profile flashings on our trucks, so in most cases we can handle the swap the same day we diagnose it. The way you usually find out is a brown ceiling stain above a window, a damp spot in a corner where the wall meets the roofline, or water working its way down an interior wall after a South Florida downpour beats against a chimney or sidewall for an hour straight. Flashing fails quietly, then the water damage announces it.

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To
Flashing is a system piece, not a model-specific component, so the question isn’t which Owens Corning shingle you have. It’s which flashing profile was installed alongside it. We work with Owens Corning Duration, Oakridge, TruDefinition, and Berkshire lines, and the flashing we pull matches what was originally spec’d for those systems: galvanized step flashing at sidewalls, pre-formed corner and chimney flashing, and in Fort Lauderdale, plenty of custom-bent aluminum and copper pieces where older homes along the canals and in neighborhoods like Victoria Park and Rio Vista meet salt air exposure. The identifying mark isn’t a logo. It’s the profile: 26-gauge vs 28-gauge stock, the step height (4-inch and 6-inch are the two we see most), and whether the original install used a full counterflashing detail or just relied on sealant at the top of the step flash. For Owens Corning systems specifically, we prefer OEM-equivalent profile flashing rather than aftermarket generics. The nail-hole spacing and bend radius matter. A generic piece that doesn’t lap the course correctly is the fastest way to repeat the same leak with a different piece of metal. We carry profile-matched pieces for GAF and CertainTeed systems too, so if you’re not certain whether the roof truly is Owens Corning, we can still match it.

Signs Your Owens Corning Flashing Replacement Is Failing
- Interior staining at a wall-ceiling joint. This is water entering at a failed step flashing detail, running sideways along the framing, and surfacing somewhere far from the actual source. The stain you see is rarely the spot that’s leaking.
- Curling, lifted, or separated flashing on a sidewall. Fort Lauderdale’s afternoon thermal expansion works flashing loose over three to five years, especially on west-facing walls. When metal unclips from the roof plane, even 1/4 inch is enough for wind-driven rain to bypass it.
- Chalky white residue or green oxidation around a chimney base. Galvanized flashing in salt air, common all along Las Olas and the barrier island, develops a specific failure pattern: the zinc layer sacrifices itself, then the steel pinholes. Once you can scrape flaking metal with a fingernail, the flashing is done.
- Damp attic insulation above a parapet or skylight. We find this on flat-roof sections of Fort Lauderdale homes where flashing laps have lost their bond and water tracks into the building during heavy afternoon storms.
- Previous patch work that’s now lifting. If someone caulked or roof-cemented your flashing within the last two years, it’s re-curing rather than resolved. Roof cement over a failed flashing detail buys you a season at best, not a repair.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most Fort Lauderdale homes, replacing flashing on a single wall or chimney runs between $350 and $900 installed. A full step-flashing rework on a longer sidewall, or custom copper replacement, lands higher, typically $1,200 to $2,600 because the material itself runs $18 to $32 per linear foot before labor. Included in every price: removing the failed metal, cutting and bending profile-matched replacements, resetting and resealing the surrounding shingles, and haul-off of the old material. We give you a written, line-item price before any work starts, and every flashing repair carries our written guarantee under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails inside that year, we come back at no charge. Greg Holloway walks the roof himself, shows you the price in writing, and his crew doesn’t collect a dollar until the work is done and the detail is water-tight.
DIY or Call Us?
Flashing replacement on most roof slopes is something a careful homeowner can inspect but not safely repair. And we want to be direct about that. On a one-story home with a low-pitch roof and a straightforward corner flashing, some Fort Lauderdale DIYers manage a weekend fix. On a two-story Dutch colonial in Sailboat Bend or any detail involving a chimney, a skylight, or a tile roof, the risk isn’t the metal. It’s that you’re working from a ladder or on a wet surface, and the detail has to be lapped and sealed correctly or it leaks at the next storm. We’d rather you call us for a free estimate and hear the real number than spend a Saturday compounding water damage. (754) 732-9325. A live person answers.

FAQs
How long does Owens Corning flashing last in Fort Lauderdale? Galvanized flashing in our coastal climate lasts 12 to 20 years; aluminum runs longer, and copper can outlive the shingles around it. In practice, salt air, hurricane-level wind pressure, and poor original installation are what shorten flashing life, not the Owens Corning shingle itself.
Can flashing be repaired instead of replaced? In a few limited cases, yes, if the metal is sound and only the sealant or a single lap has failed, we can spot-treat it. But if the flashing is bent out of plane, corroded, or was installed wrong, full replacement is the only repair that won’t re-leak. We’ll tell you honestly which you’re looking at. Call (754) 732-9325 to schedule an inspection.
How long does a flashing replacement take? Most single-wall or chimney flashing replacements take between 2 and 5 hours of on-roof work, with the full job completed the same day. More complex details, like full sidewall re-flashing or copper work, may run into a second day. We’ll give you the window when we give you the price.
Do you actually stock the flashing, or do you have to order it? We stock profile-matched Owens Corning-compatible flashing pieces on our trucks, along with matching options for GAF and CertainTeed systems. The common small repairs, the step-flash replacements and the chimney base details, we can usually pull off immediately without ordering anything.
