Owens Corning Ridge Vent Installation: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you need an Owens Corning ridge vent installed or replaced in Fort Lauderdale, we stock the parts, we know the product line, and we’ll give you a written price before any work starts. Most ridge vent installation jobs on Fort Lauderdale homes run between $850 and $1,900 installed, depending on the linear footage of ridge, the roof pitch, and whether we’re replacing damaged decking at the ridge line. You’ll usually discover the problem after a heavy summer storm, when you notice water staining along the ceiling near the peak of the roof, or when you spot shingles lifting at the ridge cap after a wind event off the Atlantic.

Tilehurst Roofing Fort Lauderdale is an independent roofing contractor. We’re not affiliated with Owens Corning, but we install their ridge vent products regularly and know how they behave in South Florida’s heat, humidity, and salt air better than most.

Want the short version? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Installed price for Owens Corning ridge vent runs roughly $850 to $1,900 in Fort Lauderdale
  • We carry Owens Corning ridge vent on the truck and can usually start the same week
  • Every installation comes with a written guarantee, and we put the price in writing before we pull a single nail
  • A failed ridge vent is not something to put off in Fort Lauderdale – it’s an open channel for water into your attic during hurricane season

Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning sells ridge vent under two main product lines: the VentSure series and the DeckSeal series. The VentSure 4-foot strip vent is the one we see on most Fort Lauderdale homes, and it’s what we stock on the truck. The DeckSeal line is a lower-profile option that some builders in the area used on tile-to-shingle transitions, particularly on older homes in neighborhoods like Victoria Park and Rio Vista where roof lines got creative.

The compatibility gotcha with Owens Corning ridge vent is that the vent strip has to match the profile of the shingle you’re installing it with. Owens Corning’s vent is engineered to sit flush with their Duration and Oakridge shingle lines, which have a thicker, more dimensional profile. If someone installs an aftermarket generic vent on top of a Duration shingle, the vent sits proud and the nails don’t seat correctly. That’s the number one cause of ridge vent blow-offs we see after summer squalls in Fort Lauderdale. We carry the OEM Owens Corning VentSure strips here, and we’ll also install quality aftermarket equivalents if a homeowner is budget-bound and we’re matching a flatter shingle line like a three-tab.

To identify what you have, look at the exposed edge of the vent along the ridge. Owens Corning stamps their name on the underside of the plastic vent baffle. If the vent is already crumbling from UV exposure after years of Fort Lauderdale sun, you’ll see brittle, chalky plastic. That’s a replacement, not a repair.

Signs Your Owens Corning Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Water staining on ceiling drywall near the peak of the vaulted ceiling. This is the classic symptom. Water enters at the ridge vent during a driving rain, travels along the underside of the decking, and shows up as a brown ring where the drywall meets the ridge. It means the vent’s baffle or the sealant at the nail line has failed.
  • Shingles lifting at the ridge cap after a storm. The ridge cap shingles are the only thing covering the vent strip. If they’re curling, cracked, or missing, the vent underneath is exposed and any wind-driven rain gets straight into the attic.
  • Black streaks or mold on the underside of the roof sheathing near the ridge. This tells you moisture is getting in and not drying out. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, a leaking ridge vent turns an attic into a mold farm within a season.
  • You can see daylight through the ridge vent from inside the attic. You should be able to see ventilation channels, but you shouldn’t see gaps where the vent doesn’t seat flush against the decking. Gaps mean the vent was installed wrong or the nails have pulled loose.
  • The plastic vent itself is cracked, warped, or missing pieces. After ten to fifteen years of South Florida UV exposure, the plastic gets brittle. Once it cracks, it’s done. That vent has to come out and a new Owens Corning VentSure strip goes in.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Fort Lauderdale ranch or two-story with forty to sixty linear feet of ridge, an Owens Corning ridge vent replacement runs between $850 and $1,900 installed. The range comes down to three things: how much ridge you have, whether the existing shingles at the ridge line are reusable or need to be cut back and replaced, and whether the decking underneath has rotted from water intrusion.

Here’s what that price includes, and we put every line item in writing before we start:

  • Removal and disposal of the old ridge vent and damaged ridge cap shingles
  • Inspection of the ridge decking, with rot repair billed at a per-sheet price you approve first
  • New Owens Corning VentSure ridge vent, properly nailed and sealed
  • New ridge cap shingles matched to your existing roof color
  • A written guarantee on the workmanship, delivered before the crew leaves the property

One thing that drives cost in Fort Lauderdale specifically is the roof pitch. A lot of homes east of US-1 and along the New River have steep, two-story roof lines with limited ridge access. That’s not a problem, but it takes more time and more care. We’ll tell you the number before we touch your roof. That’s just how it should work.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things from the ground or the attic: look for daylight gaps at the ridge line, check for water staining on the decking, and see if the vent plastic is cracked. But replacing a ridge vent means working at the highest point of your roof, on a slope, often in the heat of a Fort Lauderdale afternoon. A ridge vent replacement is not a safe Saturday project on a two-story home. Greg Holloway has been on roofs since he learned the trade years ago through the construction trades program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and even he’ll tell you the ridge line on a hot day is where you want experienced hands with the right ladder setup and the right fall protection.

The part that goes wrong for DIYers isn’t the vent strip itself. It’s getting the old ridge cap off without damaging the field shingles, and getting the new cap nailed so it survives the next tropical storm warning. If you’re comfortable in the attic with a flashlight, go look. But if the vent is cracked or the ridge cap is lifting, call us at (754) 732-9325 and we’ll talk you through what we’re seeing and what it’ll cost.
